Service GuideThis is a guide to our regular worship services, and an indication of what takes place at each one. Sundays at 8.00amHoly Communion from the Book of Common Prayer. A traditional spoken service from the 1662 revision of Cranmer's liturgy. There are no hymns, and there is a short homily. Sundays at 11.00amFamily Services (1st Sunday), Holy Communion (2nd Sunday) and Morning Prayer (other Sundays). We use the new Common Worship liturgies, and a variety of hymns and songs. Our worship is accessible to all, and on Sundays except Family Service days the children go out after the first part of the service to Sunday School in the school buildings. We continue with Family Services on the 1st Sunday of the month in term time starting at 11am. Sundays at 6.30pmEvening Prayer (1st, 4th and 5th Sundays), and Holy Communion (3rd Sunday). This term we shall be using the 1662 BCP liturgy on these Sundays, with traditional hymns and some canticles. ‘Second Sunday’ at 6.30pmSomething ‘different’ in the evening. Either a ‘Young @ Heart’ contemporary style service, or other forms of worship, such as a Taize service, a Songs of Praise service of favourite hymns, Celtic style worship or quiet contemplative services. Midweek Communion on Wednesday 9.30amA short service on the first Wednesday of the month. A chance to meet together to worship God between Sundays. Summer Holiday Children’s SpecialsExcept when there is a family service in the summer holidays, ‘Summer Special’ activities are arranged for the younger children. These are held in the school. ToiletsThere is no toilet in church, but you are welcome to use the facilities at the Rectory if necessary (these are not disabled toilets) - a member of the Welcome Team will take you over to the house during the service. AccessSince our ancient church is set on a little hill there are steep paths from each lychgate. However there is a level path leading from the Rectory across the top of the churchyard to the north door. Access to this path is via the Rectory driveway in Rectory Drive off the High Street. Loop SystemThe church is fitted with a loop system for those with hearing difficulties. We seek to serve our whole community, and we hope that you will have found something in our pattern of services that allows you to come and spend time at St Lawrence's, meeting with God and with one another. We look forward to seeing you soon ! |
