HousegroupsAll healthy churches, committed to the corporate and individual Christian growth of their members, recognise the importance of meeting regularly in small groups. A Sunday Service is a wonderful place to worship God together with others in the church family, and to hear the Bible read and preached. But it is not always possible, in the context of a church service, to ask questions, discuss the issues that have been raised, share one’s personal needs, or be prayed for. The first Christians met in the Temple for corporate worship, as we do in church, but we are told in the Bible that they also met regularly in their homes, to worship, learn, share their needs, and pray (Acts 2:42-47). At St Lawrence there is a range of small groups that meet at different times and for different reasons. You are welcome to join one of these groups - please contact Stephen Hills, who will be pleased to talk with you, and recommend a suitable group. Here are details of some of the groups - Serendipity GroupsThere are five of these friendship groups of between half-a-dozen and a dozen folk, who meet (either weekly, fortnightly or monthly) to study the Bible and to care for and support to one another. Some meet during the day, and some in the evenings. More2Life GroupsTwo new groups, that meet fortnightly to study the Bible and discuss how it can be applied to 21st Century lives. Wherever we are on our ‘journeys’, there is always ‘more to life’ to be discovered, and these groups are good places to explore different aspects of the Christian way in the company of followers on the same road. Alpha and Post-Alpha GroupsAn opportunity for those who are still deciding whether the Christian journey is one they wish to embark upon, or who have just decided that they do, to learn about the basics of the Christian faith and to ask questions. See the Alpha page for more details. We run one Alpha course a year, and sometimes those who have completed the course form a Post-Alpha group for continued discussion and support as they seek to develop in their new-found faith. Parenting GroupsOccasional groups which are led by members of St Lawrence, and open to anyone in the community who wants to talk through issues relating to parenting. These groups are not involved specifically in Bible teaching, but acknowledge in their conversations that God, the Perfect Parent, loves us and is interested in our lives. Men’s GroupA new evening group for men that meets occaisionaly. An opportunity to discuss what it means to be a Christian in the workplace, to learn how the Bible can be valued and applied in our daily lives, to share some of the issues that men face today, and to support one another. |
